Professional Patio Cleaning

Patios in Wootton turn green and slippery in shady spots and fill with weeds between the slabs. We clear the growth, pressure wash at a setting suited to your stone or porcelain, then re-point or re-sand the joints as agreed so the clean finish lasts longer.

Pressure washing is set to suit natural stone, porcelain, concrete or block paving, with softer stones cleaned carefully so they are not etched. Debris is cleared away rather than washed into borders. Afterwards, loose mortar can be re-pointed and block paving topped up with kiln-dried sand to keep weeds out.

Patio cleaning covers Bedford, Kempston, Shefford, Wolverton and the surrounding area. We agree what the joints need before starting, so your free written quote includes the clean and the finishing together.

When to Call Us

Signs Your Patio Needs Cleaning

These are the situations that most often lead people to get in touch about this work, and what each one usually means.

  • Slippery Paving

Algae and moss have built up on the surface, especially in shady spots, and the patio has become slippery and unsafe underfoot after rain.

  • Weeds in Every Joint

Weeds and grass keep pushing up between the slabs or blocks, and pulling them by hand never seems to keep them away for long.

  • Dull or Stained Slabs

The paving has turned green, grey or black over the years, and you want to see its original colour again before summer or before selling.

  • Crumbling Pointing

Mortar between the slabs has cracked or washed out, leaving gaps that collect dirt and let water get under the paving.

How It Works

How Patio Cleaning Works

  1. Checking the Surface

We look at the paving material, the state of the joints and any loose slabs, so the cleaning method suits your patio and any repairs are flagged first.

  2. Clearing Growth

Weeds, moss and loose debris are lifted from the surface and the joints, making sure the washing that follows reaches the paving itself.

  3. Pressure Washing

The patio is washed section by section at a pressure suited to the material, lifting dirt, algae and staining while taking care with softer stone.

  4. Joints & Final Review

Joints are re-pointed or re-sanded as agreed, the area is rinsed and tidied, and we review the completed work with you and confirm everything has been done as agreed.

FAQs

Patio Cleaning FAQs for Wootton

Do you cover Wootton?

Yes. Wootton in Bedfordshire is one of the areas we cover from our base in Bedford, along with nearby Kempston, Cranfield and Bedford. Call 0800 158 5642 with your postcode and we will arrange a time to look at the job.

Will pressure washing damage my patio?

Pressure washing can damage paving if the pressure is too high or the nozzle is held too close, especially on softer sandstone. We set the pressure to suit the material and work carefully across the surface. On block paving, washing removes some of the jointing sand, which is why re-sanding afterwards is part of the job.

How long does a patio stay clean?

It depends on how shaded and damp the area is. Patios under trees or on north-facing sides of a house usually see moss and algae return sooner than sunny ones. Sweeping regularly and keeping the joints full helps, and many people find a clean every year or two keeps the paving looking good.

Do you re-point the joints after cleaning?

Where the mortar is cracked, loose or missing, re-pointing is usually recommended once the patio is clean, as gaps let weeds back in and water under the slabs. For block paving we brush in fresh kiln-dried sand instead. We will point out what the joints need when we see the patio.

Can you clean porcelain and natural stone?

Yes. Porcelain is dense and generally cleans up well with pressure washing. Natural stone such as sandstone and limestone is more porous and softer, so it is cleaned with lower pressure and more care. We check what your paving is made of before we start so the method suits it.

Is it worth cleaning a patio with sunken slabs?

Cleaning will improve how it looks, but it will not fix slabs that rock or have sunk, because that comes from the base underneath. If only a few slabs are affected, they can sometimes be lifted and relaid. If the problem is widespread, a new patio may be better value, and we will explain both options.
